Diet ketat tidak disarankan untuk dilakukan pada usia berapapun, terutama tidak disarankan untuk remaja dalam masa pertumbuhan. Berikut ini cara pengaturan pola makan yang baik:
1. Membatasi konsumsi makanan dengan kalori tinggi seperti gula sederhana dan minyak (termasuk juga makanan berlemak)
2. Mengurangi porsi makan, bila anda lapar di antara waktu makan berat, anda dapat mengkonsumsi buah, sayur, jus tanpa gula
Konsumsi karbohidrat yang lebih kompleks seperti beras merah, beras coklat, gandum utuh, oatmeal.
3. Hindari mengurangi waktu makan (jangan makan hanya 1 atau 2 kali sehari), karena mengurangi waktu makan akan menambah porsi makan anda di jam makan berikutnya dan menurunkan kecepatan metabolisme tubuh anda
4. Minum air setidaknya 2 liter sehari, minum terutama sebelum waktu makan.
5. Olahraga teratur > pilih olahraga yg disukai setidaknya 30 menit sehari.
Tingkatkan aktivitas fisik dalam keseharian anda, misalnya naik tangga untuk ke lantai atas, bersepeda ke sekolah, jalan kaki ke supermarket, dll.
6. Tidur /Istrhat secukupnya
