Penunuran berat badan yang aman yaitu 0,5-1 kg per minggu, menurun secara perlahan tapi pasti. Prinsip untuk menurunkan berat badan itu energi yang keluar, jumlahnya sama dengan asupan makanan yang masuk ke dalam tubuh.
Maka olahraga dan aktivitas fisik sangat penting untuk keberhasilan penurunan berat badan. Bila energi yang dikeluarkan oleh tubuh lebih sedikit dibanding jumlah asupan makanan, dapat terjadi obesitas. Bisa dimulai dengan olahraga 30 menit per hari, namun dilakukan secara rutin.
